“And David said to Achish, ‘But what have I done? What have you found in your servant from the day I entered your service until now, that I may not go and fight against the enemies of my lord the king?’ And Achish answered David and said, ‘I know that you are as blameless in my sight as an angel of God. Nevertheless, the commanders of the Philistines have said, ‘”He shall not go up with us to the battle.’” Now then rise early in the morning with the servants of your lord who came with you, and start early in the morning, and depart as soon as you have light.’ So David set out with his men early in the morning to return to the land of the Philistines. But the Philistines went up to Jezreel.”
David is anointed King of Judah in 2 Samuel 2; several chapters after- the events above in 1 Samuel 29. Several battles took place, David lost a close friend, David lost & recaptured wives & family, and David had to make many considerable leadership decisions.
Yet, would any of these events transpire without David’s obedience to Achish, who asked David & his men to rise early & depart with the light.
Today, the day that I write this post, first light hits Naples, Florida around 6:50 A.M.
Sunrise can change through the year due to the geometric effect of the sun’s path across the sky, the earth’s tilt & the earth’s elliptical orbit shape. Some locations experience less variation than others, as far as, when the sun rises.
Yet, David was asked to depart at first light. Which likely means, David and his men, rose earlier than dawn, so that they could be ready to leave at dawn.
David and his army likely prepared to move in the dark of night. They actually moved in the light.
Each step out of Achish’s command, a step further into an afternoon full sunlight.
Yet, do I have the patience needed to trust God to prepare to move at first light by gathering my supplies before first light?
If I always wait till I see light to move, will I be prepared to move? Or will it be too late?? Does this mean some preparation for God’s Will takes place in the dark? Would David had become King of Judah if he refused to prepare to leave Achish’s army before the light?
