Luke 8:22-25 (NIV)

“One day Jesus said to his disciples, ‘Let us go over to the other side of the lake.’ So they got into a boat and set out. As they sailed, he fell asleep. A squall came down on the lake, so that the boat was being swamped, and they were in great danger.

The disciples went and woke him, saying, ‘Master, Master, we’re going to drown!’

He got up and rebuked the wind and the raging waters; the storm subsided, and all was calm. ‘Where is your faith?’ He asked His disciples.

In fear and amazement they asked one another, ‘Who is this? He commands even the winds and the water, and they obey Him.’ “

Usain Bolt said, “Injury is a part of sports, in general.”

Storms are a part of life. Men lead families through life. Life contains storms. Therefore men lead families through storms, through injuries, through failures.

As the verse above points out, storms can even put us into great danger. Crews have drowned during particularly harmful events out at sea. Storms, to some degree, can be prepared for in advance. Other storms, come without warning, or with such intensity & ferocity that they destroy even when we are prepared.

Failure happens for a multitude of reasons. I have failed for lack of preparation. I have failed for over-preparation & hesitation. I have failed for focusing on the wrong task, the wrong person, and the wrong event. I have failed because of the actions of others. I have failed because of my reaction to the actions from others. I have failed because of sickness. I have failed because my competition had more talent. I have failed because I simply lacked talent, even when I had hard work. I have failed for not working hard enough in the right areas. I have failed for not resting enough to heal in time for the event. I have failed for taking on too much control. I have failed for not studying enough to learn from my mistakes.

These are just my reasons for failure. There are so many more reasons, I am sure.

Regardless of the storm, I have lessons to learn. Regardless of the failure I experienced, I have lessons to take.

I will fail & as long as I have another breath, I will learn.

So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand. Isaiah 41:10
