1 John 1:9 (ESV): “If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”
Luke 6:35-36 (HCSB): “But love your enemies, do what is good, and lend, expecting nothing in return. Then your reward will be great, and you will be sons of the Most High. For He is gracious to the ungrateful and evil.
Be merciful, just as your Father also is merciful.”
Mercy is hard for me.
I want to be the judge.
However, God reminds me that I do not have the power to be the judge.1
I can not judge with the righteousness that true, correct, godly judgment requires.2
I do not see the world & it’s people through the same lens that God does. I am not all-knowing or all-powerful.
Only God Is.
Matthew 9:10-13 (ESV): “And as Jesus reclined at table in the house, behold, many tax collectors and sinners came and were reclining with Jesus and His disciples. And when the Pharisees saw this, they said to His disciples, ‘Why does your teacher eat with tax collectors and sinners?’ But when He heard it, He said, ‘Those who are well have no need of a physician, but those who are sick. Go and learn what this means: “I desire mercy, and not sacrifice.” For I came not to call the righteous, but sinners.’ ”
Yet, as hard as Mercy is for me.
I can not imagine living a life where God was not merciful to me.
Therefore, I am required to reflect that same mercy to others.
To give back what I have freely received.
“Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the earth.
Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled.
Blessed are the merciful, for they will be shown mercy.
Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God.
Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God.”
