Proverbs 4:5-9 (ESV)

“Get wisdom; get insight;

do not forget, and do not turn away from the words of my mouth.

Do not forsake her, and she will keep you;

love her, and she will guard you.

The beginning of wisdom is this: Get wisdom,

and whatever you get, get insight.

Prize her highly, and she will exalt you;

she will honor you if you embrace her.

She will place on your head a graceful garland;

she will bestow on you a beautiful crown.”

God’s ways are wisdom. God’s Word provides wisdom. God is wisdom.

Yet, God did not spend all of His time, reading His Word. In fact, God spent many of His youthful years on this earth as a carpenter. This means Jesus/God approves of learning & working on a skill.

Applying the principles in the Bible to our work, to our skills, to our crafts, are great ways to honor Him on this earth, in very tangible ways.

Below is the story of Bezaleel & Aholiab in Exodus 31.

Exodus 31:1-8 (KJV)

“And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying,

See, I have called by name Bezaleel the son of Uri, the son of Hur, of the tribe of Judah:

And I have filled him with the Spirit of God, in wisdom, and in understanding, and in knowledge, and in all manner of workmanship,

To devise cunning works, to work in gold, and in silver, and in brass,

And in cutting of stones, to set them, and in carving of timber, to work in all manner of workmanship.

And I, behold, I have given with him Aholiab, the son of Ahisamach, of the tribe of Dan: and in the hearts of all that are wise hearted I have put wisdom, that they may make all that I have commanded thee;

The tabernacle of the congregation, and the ark of the testimony, and the mercy seat that is thereupon, and all the furniture of the tabernacle,

And the table and his furniture, and the pure candlestick with all his furniture, and the altar of incense . . .”

The Spirit of God came upon Bezaleel & Aholiab and God filled them with wisdom, understanding, and knowledge to make His temple beautiful.

Exodus 35:10 (NASB)

“Have every skillful person among you come and make all that the LORD has commanded: . . . “

God, help me to get skillful so I can bring value to your kingdom.
